Yinson Holdings Berhad has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), to implement and expand sustainable initiatives in Selangor, starting with the promotion of electric bikes and battery-swapping solutions offered through Yinson’s green technologies business unit, Yinson GreenTech (YGT).
The agreement aims to reduce carbon emissions, promote green transportation, and improve mobility in Selangor, aligning with the state’s aspiration to be a smart, liveable, and prosperous state as outlined within its Rancangan Selangor Pertama (RS-1).
The Partnership Agreement Exchange took place between Yinson group executive chairman Lim Han Weng and Sidec CEO Yong Kai Ping during the 8th Selangor Smart City & Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2023 held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The exchange was witnessed by minister of science, technology, and innovation Chang Lih Kang, member of the Selangor state executive council (Selangor Exco) Jamaliah Binti Jamaluddin, Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor) chief operating officer Saipolyazan Bin Mat Yusop, and Yinson non-independent executive director Bah Kim Lian.
During the event, guests visited Yinson’s ‘green ecosystem lifestyle’ concept booth at SDEC, where they were briefed on the range of green technologies solutions offered by the Group. These included DC chargers by YGT’s charging infrastructure business chargEV, e-bikes with swappable batteries by YGT’s micromobility business rydeEV, smart e-vans by YGT’s EV leasing business drivEV, and the Robotani autonomous agriculture robot by autonomous robotics technology company eMoovit.
Also featured at the booth were Yinson’s partners, telematics system developer Navipulse, and ride-pooling transportation platform Kumpool.
Lim said, “One of YGT’s key strategies is to relentlessly drive innovation in alignment with government incentives and work with corporations, local governments, and communities to realise their net zero ambitions.
“We are excited to work with Selangor, Malaysia’s primary port of entry and Malaysia’s largest economy, to realise its transformation into ASEAN’s digital hub, including the implementation of a technology-driven, green transportation system. We believe this agreement paves the way for Yinson’s future collaborations with other local governments towards achieving the nation’s commitment to attaining net zero by 2050.”
Yong added, “We are excited to work with Yinson to propel Selangor as the digital hub of Southeast Asia. This ambition calls for joint effort between public and private sectors in pursuing our shared goal of developing a holistic, sustainable ecosystem encompassing both digital innovation and robust physical infrastructure.
“Only through partnerships such as these can we advance in Malaysia’s journey towards carbon neutrality by 2050.”
Rancangan Selangor Pertama (RS1), introduced in July 2022, outlines the strategic direction of the State’s comprehensive five-year development plan from 2021 to 2025. The plan encompasses short, medium, and long-term goals, with a vision to transform Selangor into a smart, prosperous, and liveable state by 2025. It is structured around four guiding themes: strengthening the economy, enhancing social inclusivity and well-being, advancing sustainability, and building S.M.A.R.T. and effective governance.
