Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is urging for increased collective efforts to decarbonize the worldwide economy. Today, the company outlined its commitment to fostering a fair and inclusive transition to net zero and shared the initiatives it will undertake at the upcoming COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference to support these goals.
The event, scheduled to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, will bring together thousands of government officials, private-sector leaders, climate experts, NGOs, youth groups, and other stakeholders. The primary focus of the conference will be the publication of the first Global Stocktake, a comprehensive evaluation of progress made since the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement.
Recognizing that energy is at the core of over 70% of carbon emissions, Schneider Electric delegates will emphasize the untapped potential of electrification, automation, and digital technologies. They will showcase the social and economic benefits of deploying these solutions across industries, buildings, homes, data centers, infrastructure, and transportation.
Peter Herweck, CEO of Schneider Electric, said, “We have plenty of technologies at our disposal today. It’s time to recognize that deploying these at a much greater speed and scale brings social, environmental, economic, and job-creation benefits, that they can lower emissions and costs faster than many realize – and that inaction is simply not an option.”
During COP28, Schneider Electric will host discussions and present solutions at the COP28 Technology & Innovation Hub. Delegates will engage in panel discussions covering topics such as corporate decarbonization, youth empowerment, and supply chain engagement. Additionally, the company will:
- Release geographically relevant insights on ways to accelerate decarbonization, building on its Back to 2050 research.
- Extend several Schneider Electric Foundation partnerships, aligning with its longstanding mission to support the empowerment of younger generations and women through education and training in the energy sector.
- Announce new strategic partnerships and initiatives to further decarbonize its supply chain and launch a report on supply chain decarbonization developed in partnership with Women Action Sustainability (WAS).
Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman of Schneider Electric, highlighted the importance of developing energy efficiency and clean, affordable energy as the world’s population and economies continue to grow.
He stated, “New technologies of digitization leveraging IoT, big data, and AI, as well as low-carbon electrification, are the two major disruptors of our relationship to energy. Accelerated adoption of these technologies and new ways of designing are essential pillars of innovative, collective, fair, and inclusive climate action.” Tricoire emphasized the role of impact companies like Schneider Electric in inspiring and supporting global sustainability action across governments, societies, academia, and the business world.
