More than 400 participants gathered at the MTDC Technology Conference & Exhibition (MTCE) to engage in discussions about Malaysia’s deep tech ecosystem and the transformative impact of investments in new technologies on the nation.
The event, MTCE 2023, was inaugurated by Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang,, who underscored the pivotal role of technology in advancing sustainability and driving impactful investments in Malaysia.
MTCE serves as a unique platform that unites professionals from diverse industries, fostering the exchange of insights, information, and best practices related to technology promotion and sustainability as key drivers for social and economic development.
Hazani Hassan, CEO of MTDC, emphasized the global acceleration of technological advancements, coupled with a favorable investment environment for deep tech, and highlighted the significant growth of Malaysia’s investments in deep tech, noting that MTDC’s commitment to assisting various sectors of the deep tech and venture capital investment community in capitalising on opportunities for Malaysia’s technological progress, particularly recognizing the untapped potential of SMEs.
Chang, in his remarks, also commended MTDC for championing the PRECISE framework to drive technological development in Malaysia, ensuring that the benefits of these advancements reach all segments of society and support businesses, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in adopting technology-driven processes.
With the theme “Investment for Impact: Technology Driving Sustainability,” MTCE 2023 was organized by the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC), a strategic investor and deep technology venture builder that brings innovations to market.
The conference featured keynote addresses and forum sessions that delved into the intricacies of ‘Deep Technology,’ encompassing frontier technologies such as robotics, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, medical and healthcare, aerospace, and automation. Esteemed speakers, including Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, deputy secretary general (technology development) of MOSTI, and Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja, deputy CEO of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), provided insights into how deep tech investments are propelling numerous projects to remarkable success and the common attributes shared by these successful ventures.
Throughout the conference, participants had the opportunity to explore a wide array of Industry 4.0 solutions, advanced technologies, and services presented by companies in MTDC’s ecosystem. This exhibition facilitated interactions and fostered partnerships for future collaborations and business opportunities with industry leaders, professionals, and potential collaborators.
MTCE 2023 also aimed to raise awareness among participants about MTDC products and services, offering valuable insights into their advantages. By creating networking opportunities, participants could connect, communicate, and establish partnerships with potential collaborators, government agencies, and industry leaders.
The event marked a significant milestone as MTDC unveiled its Coffee Table Book titled “30 Techno Dreams,” celebrating the successes and strengths of companies within the MTDC ecosystem and the visionary technopreneurs who dared to dream.
Looking ahead, attendees can anticipate the Road2Growth Central region (R2G) event on the second day of the conference. Open to the public, R2G serves as a platform for disseminating valuable information and introducing a suite of services provided by MTDC, including pitching sessions, funding programs, technopreneur training, and cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technology solutions from MTDC’s Centre of Nine Pillars (Co9P).
Hazani emphasized that MTCE 2023 is not just another tech conference but a catalyst for change, inviting industry leaders to explore deep tech areas and engage in discussions that will shape the future of sustainable investment in Malaysia.
