Invenergy and GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business (NYSE: GE) have announced the commercial operation date (COD) of the Rusutsu Wind Energy Center in Rusutsu town, Hokkaido Japan.
This wind energy center, utilizing 15 units of GE Vernova’s 4.2-117 technology, is set to have a capacity of approximately 63 MW, expected to reduce around 64,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Despite facing challenges such as severe snowfall, the project was successfully completed, thanks to close collaboration between Invenergy, GE Vernova, and construction lead Kajima Corporation.
Steve Swift, chief commercial officer of GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business, expressed appreciation for Invenergy’s confidence in choosing their turbine line for this project, emphasizing its significance in their longstanding relationship.
Masa Oya, senior VP and Japan Business Unit Head at Invenergy, extended gratitude to all stakeholders involved, affirming their commitment to delivering more clean energy solutions in Japan.
Both companies are aligned with Japan’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the national electricity mix from 36% to 38% by 2030.
GE Vernova has played a significant role in Japan’s power supply for over 130 years, contributing to one-fourth of the country’s current installed capacity of onshore wind.
