GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV), supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), announced a US$20 million investment to develop next-generation repair capabilities for its High Efficiency, Air-Cooled (HA) gas turbines at the Advanced Manufacturing Repair Technology (AMRT) Center in Singapore.
This new investment builds on GE Vernova’s 2019 commitment to invest up to US$60 million over 10 years to establish the Global Repair Service Center in Singapore as a world leader in power generation technology, repairs, and innovation.
It aims to enhance HA repair capabilities in the region by introducing cutting-edge robotic technologies utilizing AI, lean methodologies, and creating over 100 technical roles within five years.
The announcement was made during a signing ceremony between GE Repair Solutions Singapore Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of GE Vernova, and EDB. Attendees included Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, Png Cheong Boon, Chairman of EDB, and Cindy Koh, EDB Executive Vice President.
Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power in Asia, said, “With EDB’s support, our Global Repair Service Center in Singapore is set to become a hub of innovation, advancing repair capabilities to serve customer needs better. This collaboration marks a significant step for Singapore and the region in enhancing gas turbine technology.”
GE Vernova’s HA gas turbines play a critical role in Asia’s energy sector, where over one-third of its HA units are installed or on order. The region’s growing power demands are expected to further increase this share.
The HA platform supports decarbonization by enabling gas power plants to adopt pre- and post-combustion solutions. It currently has the capability to burn up to 50% hydrogen by volume when blended with natural gas, with plans to reach 100% hydrogen capability within the next decade.
GE Vernova’s H-Class Combined Cycle power plants are among the industry’s most responsive and flexible, complementing intermittent renewable energy sources and providing rapid power dispatch.
Cindy Koh, EDB Executive Vice President, remarked, “GE Vernova’s investment underscores Singapore’s advanced manufacturing capabilities in supporting innovation and new product development. We remain committed to fostering innovation and positioning Singapore as a key partner in advanced manufacturing.”
The Singapore facility now ranks among GE Vernova’s largest gas turbine repair centers globally, specializing in HA turbine repairs. Alongside the Greenville facility in the U.S., which serves as the HA Repairs Center of Excellence for the Americas, the Singapore center strengthens GE Vernova’s global presence in high-performance turbine technology and repair.
