Ericsson’s Advanced 5G Innovations to Accelerate Digitalization in Malaysia

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has officially launched its global Imagine Live event in Malaysia, where it unveiled a range of cutting-edge 5G use cases and technological innovations designed to accelerate Malaysia’s digital transformation journey.

The event’s inauguration was attended by the Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Tuan Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil, along with senior government and industry representatives.

Some of the key highlights of the technology showcase included Ericsson’s latest energy-efficient radio solutions, digital twin technology, VoLTE-enabled unified communications, and network automation. The event also featured 5G use cases, including a demonstration of an immersive holographic experience in the metaverse, which has potential applications in immersive communications, training, and remote technical support.

One of the exciting consumer use cases presented was HADO, an advanced augmented reality e-sports platform originating from Japan. HADO combines physical activity with augmented reality technology to create entirely new gaming and competitive experiences. The event also included insightful discussions with leading industry experts on the factors driving Malaysia’s journey toward becoming a ‘Digital Tiger’ in the region.

Ericsson is actively involved in building Malaysia’s 5G network for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and is leveraging its global expertise and technological leadership to deliver a world-class network and user experience for Malaysia. The current 5G coverage in populated areas of the country stands at approximately 68.8%, with plans to reach 80% coverage by the end of the year.

During his keynote address at the event, Hägerbro emphasized the critical role of 5G connectivity in enabling digitalization, citing it as one of the three key enablers, alongside compute and storage. He noted that 5G connectivity provides the necessary high performance, low latency, coverage, scalability, reliability, and security required for successful digital transformation.

Hägerbro stated, “In Malaysia, the connectivity needed to drive Industry 4.0 is already available through the world-class 5G network. This availability and coverage enable consumers and enterprises to access and use services even in rural and unconnected areas through Fixed Wireless Access technology. 5G also plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide in the country by connecting the previously unconnected.”

He added, “Malaysia is now among the top five countries globally and is leading in Southeast Asia in terms of download speed, according to third-party reports like OpenSignal. What the country needs now is to foster collaboration and create an ecosystem that can leverage the digital superhighway represented by Ericsson’s 5G network.”
