Sungai Klang Link Sdn. Bhd. (SKL) has strengthened its dedication to environmental stewardship through a strategic partnership with Korea Environment Corporation (K-ECO). The recent signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Seoul cements both parties’ commitment to jointly develop and construct a sustainable elevated highway project in Malaysia, marking a groundbreaking initiative that integrates environmental consciousness into the project’s core.
SKL is the party proposing the elevated highway project to the Government of Malaysia and is seeking final approvals to build, own, and operate the highway as a concessionaire. The proposed highway is 53 km long and is aligned along the Klang River in the Greater Klang Valley area, Malaysia. The project, currently in the advanced stages of government review, is poised to integrate seamlessly with existing highway networks, featuring seven proposed interchanges beginning in Klang with an interchange at the West Coast Expressway and ending at the interchange of the New Pantai Expressway 2 (NPE 2) in Kuala Lumpur.
In response to SKL’s forward-thinking approach, K-ECO, a distinguished environmental entity with a proven track record, has committed to lend its expertise, know-how, and extensive experience to the sustainable development aspects of the project. This collaboration extends beyond the traditional scope of highway construction, with both entities jointly exploring environmental and sustainability considerations integral to the project’s development.
Datuk Haji Mohd Nazri Ismail, CEO of Sungai Klang Link Sdn. Bhd. said, “The collaboration will place a strong emphasis on environmental consciousness and sustainable practices throughout the construction and operation phases of the highway. K-ECO’s involvement underscores a shared commitment to aligning the project with environmental best practices, ensuring that it harmonises with the surrounding ecosystem.”
“This unique partnership aims not only to construct a state-of-the-art highway but to do so in a manner that prioritises ecological harmony and sustainable development. SKL and K-ECO are dedicated to setting a new standard for infrastructure projects, where environmental responsibility is seamlessly woven into the fabric of progress,” added Mohd Nazri.
As the proposed highway progresses through the final stages of government approval, this collaboration ensures that it will not only connect regions but will do so with a mindful and sustainable approach to benefit the community and the environment alike.
