The ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2023 have recognized a total of 12 Malaysian projects for their exceptional adoption of sustainable energy practices. The awards ceremony took place in Bali, Indonesia, during the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM).
The AEA aims to promote and acknowledge the implementation of sustainable energy practices across public and private sectors in ASEAN member countries. The awards encompass three categories: Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices, Renewable Energy Project Awards, and Clean Coal Awards.
Out of the 23 Malaysian projects that secured the National Energy Awards (NEA), 12 emerged victorious in various categories of the AEA 2023. Noteworthy first-place winners include:
- Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices
- Green Building Awards (Large category): Tzu Chi International School
- Energy Management in Buildings and Industries Awards (Small and Medium Buildings category): Johor Port Authority Building
- Clean Coal Awards
- Clean Coal Technology Utilisation (Large Industry category): Jimah East’s Stesen Janakuasa Tuanku Muhriz
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, led the Malaysian delegation to the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting. He commended the accomplishments of Malaysian energy entities, expressing his hope that these successes would inspire other industry stakeholders to embrace sustainable energy practices, thereby contributing to the country’s decarbonization commitment.
As ASEAN collectively strives for net-zero objectives, YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad urged industries, corporations, and individuals to champion climate action, acting as catalysts for the adoption of sustainable energy practices. At the national level, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change will persist in encouraging the adoption of sustainable energy best practices, exemplified by initiatives like the NEA, designed to acknowledge achievements and stimulate further momentum toward energy excellence.
