Trina Solar, a global provider of photovoltaic (PV) and smart energy comprehensive solutions, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GSPARX Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia, a fully-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). This collaboration aims to jointly establish a robust sustainable energy sector in Malaysia.
The MoU between GSPARX, Malaysia and Trina Solar outlines the formation of a collaborative working committee. The committee’s objective is to drive sustainability initiatives and encourage the adoption of renewable energy across the nation. Moreover, both entities will engage in shared marketing efforts and cooperative exploration to uncover new business prospects, further nurturing Malaysia’s solar photovoltaic market.
Elva Wang, the head of Southeast Asia at Trina Solar, highlighted the existing strong partnership between Trina Solar and GSPARX, Malaysia. Since 2019, Trina Solar has been the solar module supplier for GSPARX’s rooftop solar projects in Malaysia. This MoU serves to solidify and expand this relationship at both strategic and operational levels. Wang emphasized the collective focus on pursuing opportunities in rooftop, floating, and grounded-mounted systems to benefit both parties and contribute to Malaysia’s eco-friendly, net-zero objectives.
Wang explains that under this agreement, Trina Solar will share its global expertise and technical knowledge with GSPARX, Malaysia, particularly in areas like smart grid solutions and energy storage systems. This collaboration aims to enhance GSPARX, Malaysia’s technical capabilities, equipping them to address challenges in solar rooftop projects and bolstering in-house expertise.
The formal exchange of the MoU occurred in Kuala Lumpur and was witnessed by key figures including Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Malaysia’s Minister for Natural Resources, Environment & Climate Change (NRECC), and prominent executives from TNB. The exchange was conducted by Elmie Fairul Mahsuri, managing director of GSPARX, Malaysia, and Elva Wang.
