The   National   Energy   Awards or NEA recognises the outstanding achievements and best practices of the public and private sectors in driving the country’s sustainable energy agenda. Inaugurated in 2018, NEA is part of the government’s effort in promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

The winners of NEA 2022 were announced on 13 September 2022, comprising 23 winners and runners-up from various categories. The winners then represented Malaysia at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA), in which 12 companies received accolades in various categories. An appreciation dinner was held today to celebrate the success of these local companies.

In his opening remarks, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change noted how the NEA has played a pivotal role in encouraging business and building owners to adopt sustainable energy practises.

“The NEA today has become a platform to educate, promote and encourage the adoption of best sustainable energy practices in offices, factories, buildings and financial institutions, in support of Malaysia’s 2050 climate aspiration.

“I believe that the positive evolution of the NEA would not have been possible without the hard work of the NEA Secretariat at the Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and the NEA Working Team consisting of officials from the NRECC, Energy Commission, SEDA Malaysia and MGTC.”

The minister expressed his aspiration that the NEA will become a leading platform for sustainable energy industry players to convene, network and share best practises with one another. He also hoped that more industry associations and chambers will actively be part of this programme
