CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and Yinson Holdings Berhad (Yinson), a global energy infrastructure and technology company, have formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing innovative electric vehicle (EV) services and infrastructure for the benefit of Malaysian consumers. This strategic collaboration is set to accelerate the adoption of EVs and green energy solutions in the country.

This partnership empowers Yinson to harness the extensive and high-speed 4G LTE and 5G network of CelcomDigi, enabling enhanced connectivity for chargEV, Malaysia’s largest electric vehicle charging point operator, as well as for rydeEV and drivEV in the eMobility sector.

Furthermore, both entities will collaborate to explore groundbreaking solutions that facilitate seamless access to clean, technology-driven services, including eBikes, electric vehicles, EV charging stations, and integrated solar infrastructure, ensuring that consumers stay connected while embracing sustainable transportation alternatives.

CelcomDigi’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Idham Nawawi, emphasized the company’s commitment to being a digital enabler for Malaysians, extending beyond telecommunications services through its Innovation Centre to connect lives and enhance digital lifestyles. He underscored the significance of this collaboration with Yinson as a groundbreaking initiative in Malaysia, where a telecommunications service provider partners with a global energy infrastructure and technology firm to revolutionize the delivery of EV services to consumers. He highlighted the profound transformation occurring in the automotive industry, driven by electric vehicles and green technology, emphasizing the critical role this partnership plays in supporting Malaysia’s energy objectives outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.

Datuk Idham Nawawi further expressed excitement about working alongside Yinson to promote green technology adoption among Malaysian consumers, aligning with the nation’s energy goals. The collaboration will explore various opportunities, from enabling connected assets to developing a robust and integrated infrastructure ecosystem, ultimately contributing to the future sustainability of Malaysia’s mobility infrastructure and ecosystem.

Lim Chern Yuan, Yinson’s Group Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of connectivity and innovative technology in shaping the future of efficient, clean, and equitable transportation systems. He expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with CelcomDigi, Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator, and praised the supportive policies of the Malaysian government. Together, they aspire to provide clean, integrated transportation solutions to everyday Malaysians, thereby advancing the nation’s pursuit of net-zero goals.

The signing of the MoU took place during the EVM Asia 2023 event, held as part of the Smart Nation Expo 2023. This momentous occasion was witnessed by YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Malaysia. Additionally, key figures present at the signing ceremony included Yinson’s Group Executive Chairman, Lim Han Weng, CelcomDigi’s Deputy CEO, Albern Murty, and Chief Innovation Officer, T. Kugan.
